Results
First results from clay and ash characterization:
Characterization of clays and first ceramic samples
Huge variations in chemical compositions and thermal behavior between two types of clays
Hot Stage Microscopy
Variations in phase compositions of six samples of clays
XRD analysis
Dilatometric sintering curve of brick sample, obtained mixing two different clays
SEM image of fracture of the obtained ceramic sample
Characterization of the ashes from local thermal stations, which are considered as main additives
Chemical compositions
Thermal behavior
Size distribution
Phase compositions of bottom and fly ash
Expected results by the end of the project:
- clay-based construction material formulations
- demonstrated the economic feasibility and environmental benefits of utilising clays from lignite mining in construction material production
- Scaling-up by setting up a pilot plant for production of construction materials from clays
- Efficient reskilling and upskilling programs for company workers
- Adoption and utilisation of clay-based construction materials and dissemination of results
